Atty. Thinking Time

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

In the recent years, I’ve always hated summer. One, because it’s always so boring. Two, because I almost always spend each day of it at home doing nothing but wasting my breath of oxygen. Three, because I don’t get to have my allowance due to Two. Four, because I tend to suffer from insomnia (the REAL thing). And Five, because I am left with a lot of thinking time.

Reason number five has its pros and cons. Most of the time I misuse my thinking time by wallowing in self-pity and negatively emotional thoughts. Other times, I do better by planning out activities and/or non-disturbing "happier" stuff. And that’s what I decided to do today. (Actually, yesterday. Since it’s already past 1 AM and I violated my 12 MN rule again.)

I cannot believe that I spent a couple of eye-blinding hours in front of my computer scouting for law schools. Crazy, I know. But at that moment, I felt productive. And inspired. I felt like I wanted this so bad, like I cannot wait to do well in college so that I’d be more than accepted come the time for law school. Recharging my drive? Feels good. :]

So far, I have explored the sites of the top schools in the country like Ateneo de Manila Law  School and University of the Philippines College of Law. Nahirapan na ‘ko sa dalawang yan pa lang. They were both very tempting, the latter being even more tempting due to the number of scholarship grants it offers. I have yet to assess Silliman University (my Alma Mater) and the other schools abroad. (Yes, I’m also dreaming of having my Degree in Law outside the Philippines.) I’ll continue tomorrow, err– today. And I can’t wait. :]

I’m not saying that this is really where I’m heading to after college. Who knows, I still have three years more — three more summers each with the allotted thinking time — and I might change my mindset again. But for now, I’m enjoying spending my thinking time wisely. Why haven’t I thought of this kind of distraction before? It feels great, actually. For the first time in a long time, I’m really genuinely excited about something. =D

I can see me now — business suit, high heels, a leather briefcase in one hand, Starbucks latte on the other, hair tied back, THE look on my face, entering an office where people stop to greet me, "Good morning, intern." (HAHAHA. Intern lang pala yun!)

Oh well. It’s a good start. ;]
